Annual Fall Fest returns to Downtown Mount Vernon September 25th Come September each year, Skagit Valley residents are reminded just how fertile this place is, and Fall Fest in downtown Mount Vernon, on Saturday September 25th from 9:00am to 4:00pm, aims to bring together all that-s great about Skagit Valley and show it off. Fall Fest is a family-oriented event that honors, celebrates, and shares in the bounty of our local agriculture and gives residents a chance to experience some of the fun that can be had down on the farm.
This year is the 4th Annual Fall Fest, by the Mount Vernon Downtown Association, and emphasizes local products - local foods, local craftspeople, and the homespun arts. Festival organizers want to encourage a re-connection with the land, an understanding of the benefits of eating locally grown food, and support of independent merchants and businesses by shopping locally.
This fun-filled day starts at the Bank of America parking lot at the corner of Kinkaid and 1st Streets, where The Shop will be providing FREE train rides for the kids. At the same location from 10:00am to 1:00pm Safe Kids Coalition and Skagit County Medic One will be hosting a FREE car seat safety check.
Along 1st Street you will find a cornucopia of locally grown produce at an expanded Farmer's Market, a reminder of yester year with an antique truck and tractor show, and down-home children's activities including pony rides from Lang's Traveling Ponies, costume decorating, and an opportunity to milk "Squirty Gerty" and take home a Washington State Agriculture Coloring Book compliment of the Skagit Conservation District.
Crafters and vendors will be offering their wares, and new this year Gretchen's and the old Children's Museum space will be open for FREE educational family workshops on sustainability such as food preservation, making goat cheese, and raising backyard chickens that will be hosted by WSU 4-H Cooperative Extension. For a complete workshop schedule go to www.mountvernondowntown.org.
Other highlights include a fiber arts display with live demonstrations, a community stage featuring live local talent, and a beer and wine garden located on Myrtle Street in front of The Trumpeter Public House.
