The Skagit Volunteer Center presents the Cost of Poverty Experience (C.O.P.E.) on January 23, 2015:
MOUNT VERNON: The Skagit Volunteer Center, a program of Community Action of Skagit County, is pleased to present its first Cost of Poverty Experience (C.O.P.E.) of the year. This poverty simulation workshop will be held in the Skagit Valley College cafeteria at 2405 E. College Way, Mount Vernon on January 23 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Participation is free for 80-150 individuals and pre-registration is required by January 16 at SkagitVolunteerCenter.org.
The Cost of Poverty Experience (C.O.P.E.) is designed to help participants gain an understanding of what it might be like to survive from week to week. This is a free community education opportunity with a special focus on poverty and higher education that will be especially useful for students, faculty, and staff who want to identify institutional barriers and opportunities for lower income students. The objective is to sensitize participants to the realities faced by people living in poverty.
